Experimental Research of Welding Residual Stress of Butt Welded Joint of Thick Steel Plate

The thickness of steel plates used in the structure has gradually increased to meet load-bearing capacity requirements long-span bridges. Thick plate welded by arc welding process will result considerable residual stress with complex distribution. Large significantly impact performance At present; thick is not considered enough bridge engineering; which could lead potential dangers safety. In this paper; a butt joint 80 mm was designed; measured X-ray diffraction method; and distribution direction perpendicular weld seam along analyzed; pattern systematically studied. It found that area near weld; more significant than direction; peak usually appears heat-affected zone; maximum value tends appear close last bead on surface; path seam; distributed “?” shape; an “M” stresses are symmetrically distributed; however axis symmetry may anywhere around seam. results serve as reference for analysis guide optimization design bridges made plates.
